How to Create Video Ads Without Actors
You don't need talent, a set, or a shoot day to ship a video ad. Here are five ways to make one without a single actor — roughly in order of speed and cost — and when each is the right call.
1. AI ad generators (fastest)
Describe your product and get finished short-form ad cuts back: generated footage, a written hook, captions, an AI voiceover and music. No people to cast, no location.
- Best for: testing lots of creative, fast; DTC and SaaS; anyone who needs video weekly.
- Watch out for: generic output if your prompt is vague. Brief it like you'd brief a freelancer — specific persona, one benefit, a named tone.
- Tools: LaunchReel (returns five angles per run, first video free).
2. Generative video models
Text-to-video and image-to-video models produce original footage you direct shot by shot. Higher visual ceiling, more effort, credit-based pricing.
- Best for: a specific cinematic shot, a hero visual, a stylised concept.
- Watch out for: cost and iteration time; these aren't built to output an ad structure, so you assemble the hook/CTA yourself.
- Tools: Runway and similar.
3. Stock footage + captions
Pull licensed clips that match your script, lay captions and a voiceover over the top. This is the classic "faceless" ad.
- Best for: explainers, listicles, "5 reasons" style content, long-form.
- Watch out for: everyone has access to the same stock, so it can feel generic; matching clips to a specific product is hard.
- Tools: InVideo, VEED.
4. Animation / motion graphics
Kinetic typography, animated UI, illustrated explainers. No camera at all.
- Best for: software demos, data-heavy messages, abstract value props.
- Watch out for: production time; good animation isn't fast, and template animation looks like template animation.
5. Founder / screen footage you film yourself
Not an actor — you. A screen recording of the product, or you talking to camera for 20 seconds. Pair it with AI captions and cleanup.
- Best for: early-stage products where authenticity and a real face build trust; software walkthroughs.
- Watch out for: it's still you on camera. If that's the blocker, use option 1.
- Tools: any browser video editor for captions and trims.
How to choose
| If you need… | Use |
|---|---|
| Ad creative to test this week | AI ad generator |
| A specific cinematic shot | Generative model |
| A faceless explainer | Stock + captions |
| A software / data message | Animation |
| Authentic founder trust | Screen or self footage + AI captions |
Most teams end up combining two: generate the bulk with an ad tool, then drop in one real screen recording or founder line for credibility.
